The Super Bowl

I enjoyed the Super Bowl this year; exciting ending, Madonna killed it at halftime, and the commercials were okay. Best of all, we don't have to put up with this Patriots dynasty/"Belicheck is a genius" talk all off-season. But we do have to put up with the "Is Eli in The Elite QBs?" discussions. The lesser of two annoying evils won, I suppose.

Super Bowl

Congratulations to the Green Bay Packers for becoming this year's World Champions of professional football. Props to QB Aaron Rodgers for wearing the WWE title belt (a.k.a. the "Ric Flair belt") on his shoulder during the MVP ceremony. They should start handing out title belts instead of championship rings. I thought the commercials were kinda lame but the two that stood out for me were the Darth Vader/VW ad and the one with Kim Kardashian. Star Wars and big asses will get me every time.

New Champs!

Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints, the new world champions of professional football. When I think back when I was little and they were the joke of the league every year, I never imagined that this day would come. Now they are the best in the world. Props to Drew Brees, Coach Payton, Kim Kardashian and the rest. Now if you'll pardon me, I ate enough chicken today to feed a third world nation for a year, so I must go lay down.

Rams Draft

My beloved St. Louis Rams had the second overall pick in the weekend's NFL draft and thankfully they picked an offensive lineman (Jason Smith). With their second pick they got James Laurinitis, a linebacker. Perhaps the best thing about him is that he is the son of Road Warrior Animal (above) and the nephew of Johnny Ace/John Laurinitis, the dreaded head of WWE Talent Relations. If he becomes good enough, maybe the Rams can give him his own seperate entrance where he could come out to "Ironman" wearing spiked shoulder pads like his father or he could come out on a skateboard like his uncle. This is the best thing to happen to the Rams since Denzel Washington's son washed out a couple of years ago.

Super Bowl Thoughts

I really did enjoy the Super Bowl last night. I also agree with the people who think the Monday after the SuperBowl should be declared a national holiday so that we don't have to go to work the next day. I'm in no condition to report. However as I mentally prepare to knock out those eight hours, here are my thoughts on last night:

- Jennifer Hudson did a great rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner" before the game (below):




- I missed the first block of commercials, but the ones that I did see weren't all that great. I liked the Go-Daddy spots (but not enough to go to their website to see the conclusion) and Dwayne Johnson's new Disney movie. Will Jack from the Jack in the Box commericals recover from his accident?

- The game itself was even better than I thought it would be. I thought Kurt Warner was going to pull off the comeback, but it was not to be. I wanted Arizona to win, but then again, they should have never left St. Louis. Screw 'em, they got what they deserved.

- I thought Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band tore it up during halftime. I was on my feet for "Glory Days". He's still got it.

- At the post-game ceremony, I was just glad that they didn't let Joe Namath on the mic after that "I want to kiss you" debacle from a couple of years ago.

- Have a great Groundhog's Day!

Rams vs. Cardinals

I was actually live in the Edward Jones Dome for yesterday's game, as the Arizona Cardinals handed the St. Louis Rams their second loss in a row. It was a slaughter, but two things struck me as I sat through this debacle:

1. We have some really hot cheerleaders

2. At least we're not Detroit

Rams vs. Patriots

Our season-turnaround hit a little snag on Sunday as the St. Louis Rams lost to the villified New England Patriots on the road. We only lost by a touchdown though, so it wasn't a complete debacle. Six weeks ago, we would have lost by 50 points. WR Donnie Avery continued to shine. Plus we should get Steven Jackson back next week. So things are looking up. At least we're not the 49ers or Lions.

Two In A Row!

Not only did we win our second game in a row in the Hasslett Era, but we turned the football world on its ear by DESTROYING "America's Team", the Dallas Cowboys, leaving that team in tatters. Standouts included running back Steven Jackson who ran for 160 yards with three touchdowns and O.J. Atogwe (above) who got two interceptions. I never knew watching SportsCenter could be so fun. Up next: the New England Patriots. Step on up.

We won! Hasslett turned it around in two weeks! HAHAHA!!! We're going to the Super Bowl! I'm drunk!

Finally!

I've been on espn.com since about 6PM last night, hitting refresh and finally the news came down: Chip Rosenbloom has given Scott Linehan the ax as head coach of my beloved St. Louis Rams. Defensive Coordinator Jim Haslett will be the interim head coach. We wish Linehan the best and would like to offer him the want ads and a map. I will now go indulge in some Welch's Grape. Rams Week Four: Bills 31-Rams 14

Well, at least we had a good first half. The defense played well, Donnie Avery finally got involved in the offense and Stephen Jackson got on track. They even led at halftime. Then the team laid down in the second half and Buffalo took over to bring us to 0-4. I heard on the news this morning that the Rams have scheduled a press conference and the owners are in town. Gee, I wonder what this could be about?

Rams Week Three: Seattle 37, Us 13

Is it over yet? Are Seattle's third-string receivers still running past our secondary? It was another sad outing. Now I have to spend all day checking websites to see if/when the coach gets fired. If we can't beat the Seahawks, then this might be the golden 0-16 season. We're back at home next Sunday. It would be appropriate to have Angelina Love at the entrance handing out paper bags to put over each of the fan's heads. Sad times.

Rams: Week Two

This season I will try to provide some hard hitting analysis for my favorite NFL team, the St. Louis Rams. Week One was a disgrace, as we got steamrolled by the Philadelphia Eagles. This week, the World Champion New York Giants came to town for our home opener. The breakdown:

The Good: We held the Giants under 100 points

The Bad: Coaching, Offensive Line, Defensive Backs, Poor Pass Rush

The Ugly: We were down only seven points to the World Champions in the fourth quarter and just promptly GAVE UP. At that point, the Giants blew us away. The announcers (the last time we will likely see Fox's A announce team for the foreseable future) said that the Giants players were begging to come in the game so they could pad their stats for contract time.

Bright Spot: Our overworked punter and kicker are headed to the Pro Bowl

The Favre Mess

I'm just about tired of hearing about this Favre/Packers situation. In my opinion, Favre should have stayed retired, gone into broadcasting, rapping, filming Something About Mary 2, or anything. Why take the beating and the negative press? Just go out on top and ride off into the sunset with class. And what is this with him having to be re-instated by the league? Did he come out on the short end of a Loser Leave Town Match? Was he suspended for hitting a referee with a steel chair? Because that's what it sounds like to me. Hopefully they will deny him re-entry into the league and he can go on about his business. Regardless, football starts in about four weeks! I'm stoked.

Rams Training Camp

My favorite NFL team is in a bit of turmoil as the star running back, Steven Jackson, has yet to report to the St. Louis Rams training camp. He is holding out for a new contract. Management has stopped negotiating with him until he comes to camp. I heard on the radio yesterday that he is keeping in contact with the coach via text message. They did not add the phrase "like two hos". Great, glad to hear text messaging is going on. Are they posting on each other's My Space page too and adding each other as friends? I hope this thing gets resolved soon.

Super Bowl Follow-Up

I haven't watched this much Sports Center and listened to so much talk radio since the Greatest Show on Turf Era. It is so good to see the Patriots finally get theirs. I have been hyped and listening to Tim Dog records all day. I think I may have enjoyed this more than when the Rams won the Super Bowl. This has consumed so much of my time that I forgot about a few tidbits, such as:

- Did you catch Paula Abdul's pre-game performance? I missed it too but I caught it online.



Since it was taped in advance last week, I didn't even see the point. It was obviously lip-synched, but other than that, it really wasn't that bad. And unlike Britney, she was representing with the dance steps. Unbelievably, the crazy bitch has still got it! It felt like '89 again.

- Jordin Sparks did a good job with the national anthem. It looks like she has lost some weight and she was looking pretty damn hawt. Yeah, I'm probably old enough to be her great-grandfather, but still....

- Tom Petty? Oh man, there's a time and a place for everything, but not the SuperBowl halftime show! That was soooo dry. What happened to the days of Aerosmith, Nelly and Britney in her prime all on the stage at the same time? Oh yeah, Janet's boob ruined everything. Can't wait to see next year's safe choice. Manilow? Streisand? Hulk Hogan's daughter?

- The commercials were pretty lame for the most part. Some companies wasted a lot of big money. I don't even remember a lot of them. I was so nervous that the Giants were going to blow the game that I could barely pay attention. I remember the Danika Patrick tease ad, but who is so horny and stupid that they would actually stop watching the Super Bowl to go to a website that Danika Patrick is obviously not going to get undressed at?

They Shocked The World!

A very special shout-out and "thank you" to the New York Football Giants for winning the Super Bowl and becoming the new NFL World Champions, thus sparing us all from another week and full off-season of "Brady is the Greatest of All-Time", "Billicheck is a Genius", and "Patriots Dynasty" stories!


And now if you will excuse me, I will partake another six hours of ESPN Sports Center.
